My band and I have been in my studio recording stuff which will hopefully be included on my next CD. Its the first time I've been able to record my material with a full kit mic. (I've done two CDs already but they were both recorded in less than ideal circumstances)

This was originally a track I wrote for my first CD, The drums were live but everything else was sequenced.
I never thought that people would be able to play it but my band have managed to get it down...

While jamming in the studio me and my bass player Mark got into a battle...
Don't know if it will end up on my CD but it is amusing...
(btw. Mark played bass on the recent UK hit single 'Strings of Life' Well worth checking the bass out on that too)

Nice stuff.

First impression on sound - the cymbals are very "toppy" and "tizzy" like all the middle's been taken out of them. Is that deliberate?

Nice Andy! Sounds like your bass player's a bit of a monsta.

The odd time tune sounded like a Zappa tribute - lotsa frantic keyboard sounds and frills.

Yes, the drums are a little toppy...its a rough mix I've done myself. When were done I shall bring a 'proper' enginner to mix...

It was recorded a Tama Starclassic Performer with Meinl Byzance Cymbals
I am now recording with my Maple Starclassic.

I'm using CAD Microphones (The studio pack, Five mic kit pack and a couple of dynamic mics)
usine this pattern

two condenser mics in X pair above the kit
dynamics on hihat and ride/2nd hihat
mic (CAD's dynamic Bass Drum Mic)inside kick (with front head off)
mics on snare and toms

total of eight mics then running to Yamaha AW16XG 16 ch hard disc recorder. (given up on computers...I'd have 16 trk reel to reel if I could like the olden days...)

The bass/drum battle is a from a really rough jam and is just the overheads and the kick mics (which will give you an idea how good the CAD mics are)

The recording process has not gone well so far. we have already recorded over an albums worth of material of which only a small percentage we are all happy with.
As there are so many great players on this forum I thought that a few positive comments from some serious players would get our motivation back up.
